Recently extended and renovated Kutaisi International Airport, serves as vital hub in Georgia, facilitating both domestic and international air travel. Located in Kutaisi the airport plays a significant role in connecting the region to European destinations and across the globe.
Kutaisi International Airport was built in 2011-2013 on the site of the former soviet airport. The airport terminal and the navigation tower were completely rebuilt, while the runway and other airfield infrastructure underwent significant rehabilitation works.
In 2016-2017 the second taxiway was built, the apron was expanded and therefore the number of aircraft parking lots were increased from 3 to 9, the entire airfield (300ha) drainage system was rehabilitated the lighting system of the apron was totally renewed, etc.
In 2021 Kutaisi Airports new extended terminal was opened and it got 6 times larger compared to the old one. This change increased the terminal throughout by 4 times and made the airport much more attractive for new airlines in conjunction with extended aerodrome infrastructure.
In 2022 the runway rehabilitation works were also performed, and a new extended car park was opened.
Airport is operated by UAG and is the second largest airport in Georgia. Being the only low-cost hub Airport in the Caucasus region, it serves as a base airport for Wizz Air and serves other international airlines – Pegasus, FlyArystan, Belavia, Redwings.
Within past 5 years, Kutaisi Airport has experienced a significant, 30% average growth in passenger traffic and in 2018 & 2019 was ranked second in Europe by ACI, experiencing the highest increase in passenger flow among European Airports, welcoming less than 5 million passengers per year.
In 2024, Kutaisi International Airport ranked among the top five medium-sized airports globally in terms of passenger flow recovery compared to 2019. The airport experienced a 97% increase in passenger traffic and a 76% rise in flight operations compared to 2019, serving a total of 1.7 million passengers in 2024.
